The Final is here, wait what? / Comment
Today, the special live Hangouts event with the elementary founders took place. It really felt a bit like an Apple Keynote. Initially, the talked about their last release, statistic- and achievement-milestones and great feedback from around the world. Some facts:
- 3.000.000+ downloads of elementary OS Luna
- 60% of those from non-open platforms
- More than 60 translations of the project for international usage
And then they shifted their look to what’s next for the average computer user: elementary OS Freya. They compared pictures of the “old” and the new, talked about differences and changes. They also took note about the version numbers of updated software and so on.
In the end, they left us with a big surprise, at least if you followed launchpad: the final release! While everybody’s wish is coming true that way, this is kind of strange for the elementary project. We never got any release candidate and there was still some assigned work to be done. What happened to elementary’s perfectionism? While this should not stop or lower the happiness and joy about the new release, which finally arrived now, it is something worth to investigate in the next days. For now we have to trust them.
