elementary OS Freya beta 2 nearly here, Daniel Foré says
“We are so close!” he wrote on his Google+ account and the elementary community on the last Sunday. And yes, that’s right; the elementary developers got really fast at bug-fixing and testing in the last few weeks. At the moment there are just 17 bugs left. So there’s a good chance to see the second beta release already this month? We can’t say for sure, but that’s not likely. As we had to wait some time at the end of the beta 1 development cycle to see all bugs fixed (there are coming more again, for sure) and to get the release in the end, we will surely have to wait till the second half of the next month to see beta 2 coming out. After the development of beta 2, the cycle of Freya’s first RC (release candidate) is going to start.
Reinstalling Freya not necessary, but recommended
As already discussed in the comments to his post, a new setup of the whole system is not necessary as we are getting all beta 2 updates via the integrated software updater, but to avoid or resolve probable issues it is recommended to reinstall elementary OS on the testing system.
Tip of the week – Startup apps
This week’s tip is about how to set up apps for automatic startup at login. Go into the system settings, navigate to “Applications” and switch to the tab “Startup”. Here you are able to add every kind of application by clicking on the “add”-button, a little plus at the bottom left of the window. You can also switch off other startup apps. The next time you log in you’ll get your programs automatically started. Enjoy it!

Hi, am I looking in the wrong place for the bug countdown on Freya Beta 2? I checked here today:
https://launchpad.net/elementaryos/+milestone/freya-beta2
and it only shows 3 bugs left, 1 confirmed and 2 in progress. Is there a page that gives a more accurate picture of how far along beta 2 is? I was hoping to see a beta 2 release some time in October.
Hello,
I wrote the article yesterday and yes they are really fast – the number is already out of date! You can check everything on stats.elementaryos.org or the Launchpad link provided with the picture above. Your links page just shows the bugs of the base system. But from my point of view an October release is still not likely. But maybe it happens – stay tuned here.
And thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the clarification, I’ll replace my bookmark with the link you provided (too bad though).
