Soft Drinks

Soft drinks, or soda or fizzy drinks as they are commonly known, are beverages that are composed of flavorings, sweeteners and carbonated water. In some cases, soft drink also contains colorings, caffeine and preservative. Sweeteners can be in form of fruit juice, fructose syrup, sugar or a multiplicity of the above.

The reason why soft drinks are called soft is their comparison with alcoholic drinks which are referred to as hard drink. Notable is the fact that a soft drink can contain some minute alcohol, but the content cannot be more than 0.5% of the aggregate volume. Alcoholic content above 0.5 % technically makes an alcoholic drink. Although this definition tend to include tea and fruit juice in the list of soft drinks, other characteristics disqualifies them.

Soft drinks are best served at room temperature or even when chilled. They are few types of soft drinks that are best served while warm such as Dr Pepper.
