Welcome to our intuitive introduction to the popular elementary Operating System. If you never heard of elementary OS or you find the whole Linux thing daunting, elementarynow is the website for you. elementary OS is a beautiful and intuitive alternative to Microsoft Windows or Apple OSX. The word elementary means simple or uncomplicated and these are only some of the qualities this operating system brings to your everyday computer experience.
History
The first ever elementary OS called “jupiter” was released in 2011 and was based on components developed by others. The elementary team quickly realized they could only improve the user experience by developing their own desktop environment from scratch, so they started work on Pantheon, a modern DE. The result was “luna” released in August 2013. elementary luna was met with critical acclaim, one reviewer stating…
“They’ve definitely shown to the world what a dedicated team of designers and developers can pull off, and it’s the sort of thing that I would definitely want to show off to anybody who is interested in a system other than Windows or Mac.”
Since its launch, elementary luna OS is growing in popularity at an astonishing rate however the team have not been idol. “Freya” the third iteration of the now famous operating system and is expected for public release in the summer of 2014. The first details about the new version have been revealed and there is no doubt it will take the desktop experience to a whole new level.
