World Cup Of Corruption As Shown By FIFA COrruption
FIFA is currently facing a crisis before its congress in Zurich, this after 14 top officials in the world governing body of football, were arrested by Swiss authorities on 27th May 2015. 9 of those arrested are former and current FIFA executives. FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who is seeking reelection to serve his fifth term, was not among those arrested.
The FIFA corruption allegations during world cup host selection haunt the top executives. With billions of dollars at stake south Africa, Egypt and Morocco jockeyed in 2004 to be given the rights to host the FIFA world cup, world most prestigious tournament. The outcome of the hosting country is alleged to have been decided by a single vote, which was shopped.
It is alleged, according to the federal prosecutor in US, that Jack Warner from Trinidad and Tobago sold his vote to the highest bidder. Back in 2004, Jack was in Morocco where he met a member of that country bid committee, he was offered $1 million, Bbut south Africa had a better deal, he was offered $10 million which is believed to be the reason South Africa hosted the world cup back in 2010. For decades that is how businesses have been conducted in the world governing football body.
The 14 arrests were made after investigations, which lasted for 3 years by FBI. The 14 will face charges of corruptly deciding who will televise the games, which will be the host and the overseer of the organized matches in the world.
Other FIFA corruption allegations include Mr. Warner receiving a briefcase with money stacked in $10,000 from a bid committee in South Africa.
In 2011, $360,000 was wired to Mr. Warner account by an associate running for FIFA presidency.
Charges have been made against marketing executives, Aaron Davidson Hugo Jinkis, Mariano Jinkis and Alejandro Burzacco for facilitating illegal payments in the football body.
The officials charged are, Eduardo Li, Nicolas Leoz, Maria Marin, Rafael Esquivel, Costas Takkas, Julio Rocha, Jack Warner and Jeffrey webb.
